Gratitude and Cooperation in the Garden

March 24, 2012

Today I am grateful for spring!  Let the gardening begin.

Sometimes siblings drive each other crazy.  There are few things more annoying than the bickering or pesterment that precipitates from that sibling relationship.  I often wish I had an umbrella that kept it off me, but usually it leaks all over the rest of us when two or more of them are at odds.  One thing that inspired our homeschooling decision was that we noticed that the more time our kids spent together, the better they got along.  Within reason, of course.  Everyone needs a break!    But we realized that by living together and being present with one another every day means that we must find ways to get along.  We are forced to coexist and thus, we are more motivated to learn to work together than to be at odds.

That motivation to work together can lead to some pretty sweet moments (which are delicious and clear the palette from the sourness of bickering and pesterment).  Here’s one in the garden today.  Big sister poking holes in the dirt so little sister can put the seeds in.  Big sister even went inside to recruit little sister to help plant seeds because she knew how much fun little sister would have.  File this under things to remind them of later, when bickering and pesterment are raining on us.

Hi, I homeschooled my 3 boys for 10 years and still think that it’s the best thing i ever did! They are college and high school ages now, but still get along great (most days!).
