Gratitude and Animals

March 27, 2012

My oldest girl has been raising money that she donates to animal shelters for the past couple of years now.  This fundraising has been driven by her and executed by her for the most part.  I do have to provide support some of the elements of her schemes, like helping her get supplies.  But she has now raised hundreds of dollars and donated them to cat shelters, and she keeps plugging along.  Some of her fundraising projects have included making clay yard art for neighbors, selling seeds and plants, and selling various crafts to other kids at our homeschool Park Day.

At the moment, she is selling catnip toys and pet beds.  She sews the catnip toys and crochets the pet beds.  The cats seem to like them.  (Click on the photos for a closer look at the pleasure bestowed upon the cats by these creations.)

So, today I am grateful for the friends who continue to buy my daughter’s projects to help her raise money for animal shelters.  And I am grateful for our homeschooling flexibility, which makes that kind of self-inspired project a tiny bit easier to pull off.
